AWIL BCOM & POSTGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMME


The AWIL Postgraduate School is focused on developing innovative research, origination, production and distribution of entertainment concept for both local and international markets and audiences. The Honours (Full-time) degrees follows the same principle of AWILʼs outcomes-based undergraduate BA degrees, with a Postgraduate-level focus on Research Led Practice/Practise Led Research and associated research methodologies to strengthen outcomes. A student will have a specific discipline as their specialization and area of focus from the Film or Performance. Students ultimately develop the capacities to communicate and successfully apply problem-solving strategies for self-management and team work, as well as a commitment to life-long learning and professional values.

Honours students can specialize in the following genres: 24 minutes narrative films or longer narrative pilots; multi camera production; documentary production; music video production and commercial production.

Similar to the Bachelor Of Art degree we offer, the course modules for the B.COM. are a unique and progressive approach to deal with the vast expanse of knowledge and theories that are accessible today.

Like the Bachelor Of Art degree, the course modules for the B.COM. are a unique and progressive approach to deal with the vast expanse of knowledge and theories that are accessible today. More importantly it is an approach to learning that is designed to stimulate innovative, conceptual and perceptual thinking; in doing so, allowing students to model and align existing knowledge to their integrated production outcomes. It primarily acts as a ʻglueʼ allowing various degrees and disciplines to integrate and share creativity and innovation in a concrete manner. The course modules run over 4 years and includes the following components:

  • DISRUPTION AND INNOVATION

MASTER OF FINE ARTS MOTION PICTURE (MFA)


The MFA is the recognized pinnacle degree in the creative arts. AWIL awards the degree to those students who have demonstrated the analytical and critical ability as well as the mastery of their ideas.

AWIL confers the degree upon those who have proven themselves ready to live and work as master artists through a continued demonstration of creativity, skill, achievement at the highest levels.

The MFA aims to provide the student with a thorough conceptual and practical understand- ing of the filmmaking process as well as the mastery of a nominated discipline, thus empowering the student to enter and grow the local motion picture industry.

The degree aims not only to teach the conceptual, technical, craft, aesthetic and attitudinal skills to produce a feature film or television series, but also to provide the student with the research capacity to contextualise the motion picture product in a broader socio-econimic context.

Each studentʼs programme is individually focused on their specific interests in the field of motion picture production. Academic supervisors and industry mentors will guide students to achieve their goals within the required parameters of individual and group production.
