Value Added Learning Assessment (VALA) is a unique forecasting system originated by Bata Passchier to pre-determine the Conceptualization, Perceptualization and Concretization of entertainment content for its related market.

VALA uses a forecasting and audience response assessment to increase the probability of the appeal of the content for its audiences.

AWIL has employed this system over the last four years. During this time, 128 films have yielded a variance of 4% between the forecast score and the achieved assessment score from the audience response. VALA is ultimately responsible for providing the framework for the success that AWIL short films have achieved over the years.

The AWIL Discipline Elective Workshops provide leaners with the necessary inputs for their respective discipline electives. AWIL has acquired and developed a series of 25 key workshops for each of the 14 discipline electives offered in its undergraduate degree programmes.

These workshops are designed to provide the wide range of intellectual, technical, craft, aesthetic and attitudinal skills and competencies required to create entertaining productions. The workshop provide opportunities for individual as well as inter-disciplinary elective practice and encourage students to acquire the skills necessary for collaborative learning.

Workshops are conducted over extended timetable hours in order for learners to receive, comprehend and practice the required skills for each workshop.

All AWIL 1st and 2nd year students are required to assist on 3rd and 4th year production (respectively) in order to complete the minimum number of production assist hours. The Assist Programme provides the learner with a valuable transfer of production skills as well as opportunities to be mentored by senior students.
